Now Open:
Piccadilly Square Park, the 14th park at Windemere!

The inviting four-acre ridge-top green space is fast becoming a favorite for weekend and after-school play. Designed with a “natural history” theme, the park features interesting displays on the prehistory of the area: interpretive signage, concrete footprints of a woolly mammoth and a saber-toothed cat, and plant selections in a “walk through time” loop. Also featured are fossils from a long-necked camel dating back to the Miocene Period (over 5 million years ago), which were found during the construction of Windemere. The also park features basketball courts, a tot lot, a play area, soccer and baseball/softball fields.

Ramona Park Now Open
Ramona Park. Sound familiar? It’s the name of Windemere’s 15th community park and also the name of the historic picnic area that put San Ramon on the map.

On July 4th, 1906, the original Ramona Park opened near the intersection of Greenbrook Drive and Camino Ramon (today located in southern Danville). It was a picturesque 10-acre site on the property of William Meese. A special train would leave San Francisco at 8 a.m. for a day at the park along what is today the Ironhorse Trail. It introduced the beautiful San Ramon Valley to people from all over the Bay Area.

The new Ramona Park, which is located at the east end of East Branch Parkway in Windemere, is a perfect setting for a picnic, complete with bocce and horseshoe courts, barbecues and picnic tables, restrooms, drinking fountains, as well as soccer and baseball fields. Add a sunny day and a basket full of goodies, and what could be more perfect?
